It is indeed a privilege and a pleasure to thank all the participants who attended Pakistan Psychiatric Research Centre (PPRC) & Fountain House’s 7th International Psychiatric conference that was organized in Dubai from 6-8 July 2012. On my personal behalf and on behalf of Pakistan Psychiatric Research centre (PPRC), it was indeed a great opportunity for having such a gathering of mental health professionals from all over the region. Their support and patronage to Fountain House and its activities have always been a great source of encouragement for all of us who are working in Fountain House.
I would also say that we did achieve a number of objectives form this meeting. The scientific programme was very stimulating, enriching and interesting and did prove very appropriate to the theme of the conference. The presentations certainly showed the emerging trends of practice of psychiatry in the region to all the participants who came from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Iran, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, UAE, Gulf States, Kuwait, Qatar, Australia, US & UK. Presence of representatives from all these countries in fact confirmed that all of us are highly committed and working for the uplift of this speciality in our respective countries. Furthermore the meeting proved an important milestone in showing the work of many regional leaders of Psychiatry as well as their role in the regional & international psychiatry. Furthermore the meeting did provide an opportunity to all of us for meeting and making new contacts with participants who came from a number of other countries.
World Psychiatric Association, World Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation, World Association for Social Psychiatry, SAARAC Psychiatric Federation, South Asian Forum on Mental Health and all the regional national associations deserve special thanks for their collaboration and co sponsorship for this meeting. WPA Zonal representatives from Zones 12, 15 & 16 need a special mention for their hard work for making this conference a real success. This was the first time that these three zones collaborated for a joint meeting.
I am in particular grateful to Dr Nasar Sayeed Khan and his team who have worked very hard to make this meeting a real success. He should be proud of his team. Dr Nasar’s role as Secretary PPRC is also very forthcoming and I am sure we at PPRC will continue promoting teaching, training and many other educational activities in the future.
With personal regards.
